National advertising

Advertising is very much a business process as well as communication process. With the invention of the telegraph in 1844 a communication revolution was set in motion.

Through advertising in mass circulation magazines, brands could be projected into national consciousness. National magazines made national advertising possible; national advertising made national brands possible.

National advertising is the term typically used to describe the kind of advertising people sees most often in the mass media. It is an advertising done by a company on a nationwide basis or in most regions of the country and targeted to the ultimate consumer market is known as national advertising.

The companies that sponsor these ads are generally referred to as national advertisers. Most of the advertisements for well-known brands that people watch on TV or in other major media are examples of national advertising.

It informs or reminds consumers of the bran and its feature, benefits advantages and uses or reinforces its images.

National advertising reaches all geographic areas of a single nation. It intended to build awareness of a brand and to give it distinctive reputation, features a different assortment of product and services than the local advertising.
